The field of Xup in Manresa, with reused artificial turf
Sports & Landscape has been in charge of transforming the soil surface of the Xup soccer field in Manresa into a green carpet with reused artificial turf. This municipal field, whose official name is Padre Ignasi Puig, is the new circular economy project developed by our consultancy specialized in sustainable surfaces for sports facilities.
The reused artificial turf comes from the Estadio Municipal del Congost field, also in Manresa, and with a surface area of 8,293 square metres. As the pitch in the Xup neighborhood is smaller, measuring 6,109 square meters (2,184 less than the Congost pitch), a selection of grass has been made, in order to extend its useful life. Some 15,000 annual uses are contemplated in this field.
The works have been carried out over two months and are part of a global project to improve three municipal soccer fields by the Manresa City Council, with a total investment of nearly 800,000 euros.
“The City Council’s commitment to sport is also a commitment to health, teamwork, camaraderie, solidarity and social integration”, explained the mayor of Manresa, Marc Aloy Guardia, at the press conference to present the project.
Undoubtedly, it is also a commitment to the environment, by betting on artificial turf, which is more sustainable than natural grass, and by opting for reuse and the circular economy.
