Sports & Landscape strengthens its commitment to carbon neutrality

Over the past few months, Sports & Landscape has been making significant strides towards carbon neutrality. The sustainable trajectory of this consultancy specialising in sports surfaces and decorative turf was already an undeniable fact, but recent projects have further reinforced this commitment.

Last summer, we pioneered the installation of the first carbon neutral certified artificial turf football pitch in the entire peninsula. The one in Torredembarra (Tarragona) achieved this milestone thanks to an ecological carpet made from sugarcane and recycled plastics, from the Polytan brand.

As if that wasn’t enough, we have treated the old turf from the Torredembarra field so that it can be reused, following the principles of the circular economy. Over the past few weeks, we have carried out the installation work of the reused turf in parks and gardens in this municipality. A total of 1,300 m2 have been recycled, which have been distributed between Plaça Aragó, Plaça Petita and Plaça del Casal Marítim.

Our commitment to eco-turf and carbon neutrality has been echoed in the La Vanguardia newspaper, which has dedicated a company profile to us in the Economy section. The report highlights our leadership in offering sports clubs and councils microplastic-free artificial turf, as required by new European regulations, and also the possibility of reusing old turf removed from pitches to give it a new decorative and functional life in parks and gardens.

In addition, we have achieved a second publication in the media this past month, in this case in Flash Magazine. This article echoes our projects for the installation of SYNLawn decorative turf in various communities in Sant Cugat (Barcelona). This grass from the American leader is also ecological, made with bioplastic polymers derived from soybeans and sugarcane, and stands out for its drainage, antibacterial and infrared resistance properties. This means that it requires almost no maintenance and has a longer lifespan, which helps to reduce its carbon footprint. In addition, it does not need watering, which saves water, a detail that is highly valued at this time in areas affected by restrictions on the use of this precious resource due to drought.

Therefore, ecological materials, which also reduce carbon emissions and save water, and reuse and recycling, are key points in Sports & Landscape’s leadership in sustainability.
